ThreatWing Tools walkthrough

Run a Safety Check on your own network

Start with one device you own or have written permission to check. Joining a Wi-Fi network does not give you permission to check its other devices.

  1. Select the device

Choose a known saved host or enter its private address. Confirm the owner, allowed work, time window, and contact before marking the authorization control.

  2. Choose a preset

Use the smallest check that answers your question. Read the selected ports, timeouts, and retry settings. Review custom settings just as carefully.

  3. Read the plan

Confirm the target and the listed checks. Cancel if the resolved address is outside your allowed private network.

  4. Run the check

Keep the app in the foreground. Read any stop or partial-result message. Do not launch parallel runs to get around limits.

  5. Interpret the result

An open port tells you a service responded; it does not by itself establish a vulnerability. No response can mean a timeout or filtering. Check the context with the device owner.

  6. Retry if needed

For time-limited results, “Run Again with More Time” presents a new plan. Review it before approving another run.

  7. Export and clean up

Choose sanitized, private, or SARIF output for your recipient. Check the file for sensitive host details. Delete findings from Safety Check history when you no longer need them; exported copies need separate deletion.
